Raranga Rangimarie Harakeke
Weaving Peace with flax
Weaving for Peace and Sharing our Good Fortune
Nau mai, haere mai!
Welcome to this special wānanga to weave peace and wellbeing more into our lives, our whanau, our community and our planet.
Atmavidya, Santosha, Nicky and are delighted to offer this space and opportunity to share and learn together through the gift of Raranga (weaving with Harakeke), to deepen our connection with other beings and with the rhythms of peace and harmony within.
To help us balance our weaving activities there will be opportunities to practise simple mindful Feldenkrais and yoga movements, breathing and meditation.
Friday 1-3pm:
We will share how to care for and honour Papatūānuku (Mother Earth) through one of her beautiful children, harakeke (flax). Learning and share how to:
Nurture the harakeke growing near you.
Harvest harakeke in a traditional way that supports its wellbeing and the wellbeing of all.
Prepare harakeke with peace, ready for weaving a simple kono (food basket) or konae.
Saturday 9am-3pm:
We will continue by learning how to weave a kono or konae—a meaningful gift for loved ones. Sharing and Learning together:
The process of weaving harakeke together;
Creating corners;
Finishing off the weaving.
Sunday, 11am-3pm:
This session provides time to come together again with the group again, continue your project, strengthen your learning, or even start a new project.
Our Facilitators:
Atmavidya completed the two year full-time weaving programme (Toi Paematua Raranga, Levels 4 and 5) at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa in Waikato (2007-2008) under the guidance of master weaver Heeni Kerikeri. Weaving is a beautifully complementary practice with Yoga and Meditation which Atmavidya has been Immersed in over the last 4 decades.
Santosha began weaving kete in her early twenties and finds joy in creating long-lasting gifts and natural items for the home with harakeke. As a primary school teacher, she has introduced her students to this grounding and holistic practice.
Nicky Woodward is offering her garden and abundant harakeke in support of growing creative vibrant communities of practice. She will offer some mindful movement practises to support and nurture our wellbeing during the day's weaving.
